Online Quizzes
Instructions
- Click a quiz to open it. Each quiz has 10 questions.
- Either print the page out and fill it in with pen, or complete it on
screen.
- All the answers are to be found somewhere on this website, so do your
research carefully.
- When you have finished, click the button at the end of the quiz.
- The computer will automatically mark your answers and give you a score out
of 10.
Types of questions
- There are four types of question:
- multiple choice
- true or false
- yes or no
- descriptive words or phrases.
- For a descriptive word or phrase question, use the same words you find on
the website (copy and paste them into the box, or retype them - be careful not
to make spelling mistakes). These are keywords which the computer will
recognise.
- Remember, you are a lot smarter than your computer (yes, you really are).
No matter how clever your descriptive answer might be, if it doesn't contain the
keywords it will think you've given the wrong answer!
Teachers' notes
- ICT can be used to support the Literacy Hour in many ways. It has
become a significant aspect of teaching.
- These quiz pages will help to capture children's attention and are a fun
and exciting way to use ICT in Literacy lessons.
- The biographical quizzes will enhance your Shared Reading and
Writing sessions and add a new dimension to your Text,
Sentence and Word Level teaching.
- Use the quizzes either for whole-class or independent pupil
work to bring an author to life in your classroom.
- Use the quizzes as the basis for a series of lessons or as
extension activities.
- The quizzes are interactive and encourage development of ICT
skills, including mouse-click, cut and paste and
independent typing, and are self-marking. This is an excellent use
of text manipulation which cannot be carried out with printed text.
However, all the quizzes are downloadable and printable for
completing in a more conventional way if you prefer.
- All the answers are available on the website to encourage
navigation of the website and detailed research. Children do not
need to leave the website to find the answers.
- Use the information on the website for Scaffolding Recounts,
Explanations, Instructions and Procedures, and as a basis
for Discussion.
